ON AROOP: Aroop Roy is a UK producer and DJ, who blends together the organic elements of jazz, afro, latin and funk with the deeper edge of house, disco and techno. His productions have been supported worldwide by numerous tastemakers and DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Atjazz, Karizma, Lefto, Soul Clap, Jimpster, Dj Spinna, Francois K and Detroit Swindle. His music has also received critical acclaim in the press, featuring in Vice Magazine, Mixmag and DJ Mag, amongst others. Aroop has released music on a growing list of labels including House of Disco, Gamm, Basic Fingers, Freestyle and his own imprint Kampana. His recent ‘Talkin Bout Life’ and Kampana Classics EPs have been hugely successfully with vinyl selling out and digital EPs topping the charts. In 2017, he has numerous releases and remixes lined up including a hotly awaited EP on Fred Everything’s respected house label Lazy Days and a remix on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label. From house and techno clubs to afrobeat nights, Aroop has DJ’d in 5 continents and over 40 cities, having had residencies in London, Geneva and in Tokyo where he made a big contribution to the underground scene creating popular and innovative club nights absolute!!, Exposure and Culture. Like his productions, his DJ sets are always a performance full of style and musicality, blending together grooves and harmonies from different corners of the globe with originality and guaranteed dancefloor impact.
