Detroit-based producer, singer, and percussionist Alton Miller has been playing a fundamental role in defining Detroit House Music for over two decades.

Born in Chicago and raised in Detroit on Stevie Wonder, Santana, Parliament Funkadelic and the Philly Sound, Alton’s early roots in soul music led to an affinity for clubbing and the perfect storm of music, dance, and skill that is required to create it. Alton began developing his deejaying skills under the electrifying energy of House Music founding fathers like Larry Levan and Timmy Regisford, whereas he was oftenly going to Ron Hardy’s Music Box and Frankie Knuckles’s private loft partie in Chicago with some of his Detroit friends including a certain Derrick May.

A few years after, Alton along with his like-minded friends Chez Damier and George Baker, opened the legendary dance club, The Music Institute in Detroit in 1988. Since then, Alton has lived in Paris and South Africa, where he pursued his musical creativity process while representing the Detroit vibe. His travels allowed him to discover other cultures and to make a name for itself all around the globe. He toured in a lot of countries including Japan, Australia, South Africa, Europe and New Zealand. He has also had the pleasure of recording with some of the best independent labels in the industry, including Defected, Planet E, King Street, Nitegrooves, Trackmode Records, Seasons and Octave Lab.

Alton Miller is picking up from where he left off in 2015 and rolling in 2016 on mission to make this year one of his most prolific ever. 2015 saw him re-introduce his label InnerMuse Recordings with his own signature sound on Whereabouts Known. During Movement 2016 in Detroit, Alton Miller played with Chez Damier for the first time since the Music Institute closed in 1989, during a party organized by fellow DJ Kai Alce. Alton Miller also inaugurated the new Adeen Record label with a first EP, called “More Positive Things”. He released another EP “The Vault” on Italian DJ Volcov’ record label, Neroli early October 2016.

Alton Miller’s new EP “Bring me down” is out on Sound Signature.
This release is the perfect introduction to the future album of Alton, a deep-house stroll into soulful sonorities and groovy sounds with the smooth and beautiful voice of Maurissa Rose. Theo Parrish loved the track so much he decided to make it the first Sound Signature release of 2017 and the first release from the album.

We couldn’t be happier to welcome back one of our most favorite artists and one helluvagreatguy. Put your hands together one time, for Mr. Alton Miller. x

ON Trinidadiandeep-

Dj and producer for Prescription Records – FutureVision Records. Trinidadian Deep, Trini, now based in New York, is that rare breed of Deep Soulful House producer and DJ, who actually plays very spiritual deep music! Having been taken under the wing of Chicago master RON TRENT, with whom he spent countless hours learning his music production craft and skill – he was also helped by Yoruba Soul artist OSUNLADE and has slowly built up a solid reputation as an honest and truly authentic Deep House musician.

Having his music released by many underground House Music labels including the legendary New York label KING STREET RECORDS, RON TRENT’s FUTURE VISION RECORDS, NICK HOLDER’s DNH RECORDS and HALO’s CITY DEEP RECORDS. Trini has also worked with many top level artists including BODDHI SATVA, CARLOS MENA, OSUNLADE, EZEL, JAY TRIPWIRE and LARS BEHRENROTH.

Trini’s dj sets highlight his very subtle, slower and groovier 120 bpm tempo, super spaced out and mesmerizing atmospherics. Don’t expect a ‘slap across the face’ type selection or a Dj who plays tracks that you know or have heard many times before or one who panders to the latest trends in dance music. Expect to be taken deep within yourself, floating naturally and healing your dancing soul!

thePeople started in November 2007 when some djs and music lovers realized a shared concern that the East Bay was overlooked as a taste making force. Oakland, with its history as a community of immigrants, transplants, leftists, same-gender-lovers, artists, and people of color, was an obvious place to create a gathering focused on creative community building through art and culture. thePeople quickly caught on and invigorated nightlife in the East Bay with fresh dance music, fresh energy, and by mixing music, with other creative strands from visual arts, to dance, fashion and food. Guest artists created live paintings and photo mosaics. Local activists registered voters. Local chefs sold tasty grub. All the while, the djs were dropping forward looking soulful tracks from across a spectrum of genres. You could hear cutting edge bass driven broken rhythms folded into Afrobeat or Brazilian flavored tracks. Of course the sounds of hip-hop, and the Caribbean would be heard. But the tracks always came from the influential rather than the derivative commercial end of the record crate. Oceans of dancers sweating until the lights came on became a regular occurrence. Meanwhile, world class urban dance artists of any style were conjuring ciphers and artisan vendors displayed their jewelry and t-shirts. But, the hallmark of the party may not be any of these things. It may be that most any night at thePeople you will see old friends and meet some new ones.

thePeople takes place monthly, every 4th Saturday at The New Parish in Oakland, California, USA.
